I enjoy reading. I have a book recommendation right now. The title is *The Last Children of Tokyo*. The author is Yoko Tawada. This book is really enjoyable. It’s a story about a boy and an old man; the old man is 105 years old. As it features a lot of Japanese history and culture, I’d recommend it to anyone studying Japanese.
多和田葉子はドイツに住んでいます。東京出身で日本語のネイティブスピーカーですが、ドイツ語で小説を書いています。エクソフォニックな小説家です。外国語で書かれた物語はエクソフォニック文学というそうです。去年ロンドンでトークイベントがありました。多和田さんの話は興味深かかったです。
Yoko Tawada lives in Germany. She is originally from Tokyo and is a native Japanese speaker, but she writes her novels in German. She is an exophonic novelist. Stories written in a foreign language are apparently called exophonic literature. There was a talk event in London last year. Tawada-san's talk was very interesting.
今、ロンドンのヘイワードギャラリーで塩田千春というアーティストのエキシビションをやっています。この人は多和田葉子の小説にイラストを書いたことがあって、その絵を見ることができます。とてもよかったです。多和田葉子は日本の新聞で連載小説を書いていたそうです。
The Hayward Gallery in London is currently showing an exhibition of the artist called Chiharu Shiota. She has previously illustrated Yoko Tawada’s novels, and you can see those illustrations there. It was excellent. I read that Yoko Tawada used to write serialised novels for Japanese newspapers.
