私の友達はフランス語を勉強しています。彼女は日本に住んでいます。先週、いっしょにパリに行きました。

My friend is learning French. She lives in Japan. Last week, we went to Paris together.

友達は最近、フランス語の勉強を始めました。きっかけは旅行です。パリに行くからフランス語を話したいと思って、２ヶ月間、毎日、勉強したそうです。

My friend recently started learning French. This was because of the trip. She said that as she was going to Paris, she wanted to speak French, so she studied every day for two months.

パリで私たちはカフェやレストランに行きました。どこの店に行っても、友達はフランス語で注文しました。そして、お金を払うときに「会計は別々でお願いします」とフランス語で言うことができました。かっこよかったです。

In Paris, we went to cafés and restaurants. No matter where we went, she ordered in French. And when we were paying, she was able to say, ‘Can we pay separately, please?’ in French. It looked really cool.

その友達は注文だけではなくて、レストランの人と少し雑談までしていました。「フランス語が上手ですね。どのくらい勉強しましたか」と言われて、本当にうれしそうでした。

My friend didn’t just manage orders; she even had a bit of a chat with the restaurant staff. When they said, ‘Your French is very good. How long have you been studying it?’, she looked really pleased.

それから、私たちは本屋にも行きましたが、本屋では店の人におすすめの本を聞いていました。店員さんの返事はあまりわからなかったと言っていましたが、ワクワクしている気持ちが伝わって、私もフランス語を話してみたくなりました。

After that, we also went to a bookshop, and there she asked the shop assistant for book recommendations. She said she didn’t quite understand the assistant’s reply, but I could feel her excitement so much that it made me want to try speaking French myself.
