今、日本から友達が来ています。大学の友達です。私はパリに行きます。パリで友達に会います。

Right now, I have some friends visiting from Japan. We went to university together. I’m off to Paris. I’ll be meeting my friend there.

日曜日に1人でロンドンに帰ります。月曜日に友達が私のうちに来ます。うちに泊まって、月曜日と火曜日はいっしょにロンドンで遊びます。ロンドンでは、タワーブリッジやビッグベンやバッキンガム宮殿などを見ます。公園で昼ごはんを食べたいです。火曜日の夜はコンサートに行きます。ジャック・ホワイトというミュージシャンです。楽しみです。

On Sunday, I’ll be travelling back to London on my own. On Monday, my friend will come to my place. They’ll stay over, and we’ll spend Monday and Tuesday exploring London together. In London, we’ll see Tower Bridge, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, amongst other things. I’d like to have lunch in a park. On Tuesday evening, we’re going to a concert. It’s a musician called Jack White. I’m really looking forward to it.

パリで会う友達と、ロンドンに来る友達は同じ人ではありません。たまたま、休みの時期が同じだったようです。日本の社会人にとって伝統的な夏休みは8月15日ぐらいです。イギリスだったら好きな時に1-２週間休みを取れますが、日本の場合は大きい休みは時期が決まっています。8月のお盆休み、12月と1月のお正月休み、それから、5月のゴールデンウィークです。

The friend I’m meeting in Paris isn’t the same person as the friends coming to London. It just happened by coincidence that their holidays are around the same time. For working people in Japan, the traditional summer holiday is around 15 August. In the UK, you can take one or two weeks’ holiday whenever you like, but in Japan, the major holidays are fixed: the Obon holiday in August, the New Year holidays in December and January, and then Golden Week in May.
