先週の木曜日から夏休みをとっています。家族といっしょにクロアチアの島に来ています。今日は私のたんじょう日です。

I’ve been on summer holiday since last Thursday. I’m staying on an island in Croatia with my family. Today is my birthday.

夏休みは10日間です。海の近くでゆっくりしています。Airbnbの家に泊まっています。部屋は広くて、きれいです。窓から海が見えます。今日の晩ご飯はBBQです。子どもがケーキを作ってくれました。食べるのが楽しみです。

The summer holiday is 10 days long. We’re relaxing by the sea. We’re staying in an Airbnb. The room is spacious and clean. We can see the sea from the window. We’re having a barbecue for dinner tonight. My children have made me a cake. I’m looking forward to eating it.

今朝、夫と息子2人で車でスーパーに行って、ケーキの材料を買ってきました。何ケーキがいいかと聞かれたので果物のタルトをお願いしました。前にスーパーに行った時に杏がたくさん売っていました。その時は買おうか迷って買わなかったんです。

This morning, my husband and my two sons drove to the supermarket and bought the ingredients for a cake. Asked what sort of cake I’d like, I requested a fruit tart. The last time we went to the supermarket, there were loads of apricots sold in the shop. I’d hesitated over whether to buy them then, and ended up not buying any.

私は自分でタルトを焼いたことはないし、作り方もわかりませんが、長男がネットで調べて作れると言いました。Airbnbの家にはケーキを作る道具がなかったのですが、オーナーが貸してくれました。

I’ve never baked a tart myself and don’t know how to make one, but my eldest son said he’d looked it up online and could make one. There weren’t any baking utensils at our Airbnb, but the owner lent us some.

大きな男の子が2人でアプリコットを切ったり、バターと小麦粉を混ぜたりしてケーキを作ってくれて、うれしかったです。

The two big boys cut up the apricots and mixed the butter and flour to make the cake for me, and I loved it.
