最近、新しいめがねを買いました。レストランで、べんりです。

I recently bought a new pair of glasses. They’re handy at restaurants.

私はだいたい毎日めがねをかけています。でも、プールに行く時と、旅行の時はコンタクトレンズをつけます。

I wear my glasses almost every day. However, I wear contact lenses on days when I go to the swimming pool and when I’m travelling.

先月、フランスのパリに旅行に行きました。久しぶりにコンタクトレンズをつけました。老眼が始まったから、レストランでメニューを見る時に大変でした。

In August, I went on a trip to Paris in France. It had been a while since I’d last worn contact lenses. As my eyes are starting to go presbyopic, I found it quite difficult when reading the menu at restaurants.

メニューの字が小さすぎて、読めませんでした。それで、パリのめがね屋さんで老眼用のめがねを買うことにしました。店の中に「読書用のめがね」というコーナーがあって、デザインも値段もいい感じでした。その店で初めての読書めがねを買いました。いい記念になりました。

The print on the menu was too small for me to read. So, I decided to buy a pair of reading glasses at an optician’s in Paris. There was a section in the shop labelled ‘reading glasses’, and I liked both the designs and the prices. I bought my first pair of reading glasses at that shop. It made for a lovely souvenir.
